Welcome to the Jade Tree Kitchen!

In 2002, when I was a grad student, I bought a tiny jade plant at a Campus Center plant sale. Now, seven years later, it has lived in five kitchens as I've changed apartments, finished degrees, changed states, gotten married, had a baby. Now it has its own bay window in our kitchen in the house I bought with my husband last year.

That plant (now hugely grown!) has seen a lot of cooking and has been my constant companion as I've burned rice, forgotten the sugar in cakes, learned how to sear salmon and poach chicken. It saw me embrace weird whole grains (spelt! wheat berries!) and weed out high fructose corn syrup. It has also, wholly without judgment, seen me eat a lot of Hagen Daas.

So take the Jade's eye view in my kitchen as I cook for myself, my husband, my friends and family - and, very soon - my baby!
